UNSEASONED WOOD
WHAT CAN GO WRONG

1.

Joinery splits or
timber moves

Constructing outdoor furniture using timber with a high moisture content means that as the timber moves, splits and cracks will appear in the joinery and along the grain of the timber.

2.

Timber cracks
or splits

Poor quality teak outdoor furniture is often not properly kiln-dried. Raw timber, like any natural material, contains moisture that will slowly dry off. This means that the timber has not set, and will move as it releases moisture.

WINTONS TEAK QUALITY SOLUTION

KILN DRYING

At Wintons Teak we kiln-dry our timber to achieve a moisture content between 7 to 10%, which surpasses the industry standard. With such a low moisture content, we can guarantee that our furniture is mould free. It also ensures that the adhesive we use in the construction of our furniture can set properly, without additional moisture that comes with “damp” timber.

When done properly, kiln drying allows the timber to dry to a very low moisture content, and most importantly ensures it dries off evenly. A condition, which can never be achieved through conventional air-drying processes.
